The open coil interior consists of hourglass shaped springs, set in rows running from head to toe and connected into one unit by a spiral wire, known as a helical wire. To provide support across its width, a thick perimeter wire is attached to the perimeter of the finished unit. This adds extra strength and prevents border breakdown.
